Richard Schechner  jest wydawcą kwartalnika „TDR: The Journal of Performance Studies”. Jako dyrektor artystyczny nowojorskich zespołów Performance Group oraz East Coast Artists wyreżyserował m.in. spektakle Dionysus in 69, Commune, The Tooth of Crime, Mother Courage and Her Children, Cops, The Marilyn Project, Seneca’s Oedipus, Faust/Gastronome, Three Sisters, Swimming to Spalding oraz Imagining O. Jego przedstawienia prezentowane były w Chinach, RPA, Indiach, Tajwanie, Francji i Rumunii oraz Polsce.
